Sand Mining in Madhya Pradesh

Illegal sand mining activities are ongoing in catchment and submergence areas of Sardar Sarovar project, in four districts of Badwani, Dhar, Alirajpur and Khargone in Madhya Pradesh.

The NBA has raised the issue before the High Court of Madhya Pradesh in 2014. The HC issued several orders attached bellow, including one on 21.07.2015 in which it stated that the HC will hear the case regarding the legality of the mining lease granted on land already vested with Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA), whereas the second issue pertaining to the environmental issues arising out of carrying out the mining activities, particularly of the sand in submerged area, will be transferred to the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The NGT, central zonal bench in Bhopal, comprising of judicial member Justice Dalip Singh and expert member AR Yousuf, issued several orders attached bellow.
