The Times Of India, June 1 2018, Indore: Narmada Aur Kisani Bachao Jang march led by farmers’ and social organizations including Narmada Bachao Andolan(NBA) on Thursday reached Indore.
The rally is being taken out in the memory of ‘martyrs’ of Mandsaur. NBA leader Medha Patkar organised public parliament (jansansad) outside Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA) office and held an open discussion with the officials concerned on the issues including shrinking Narmada and misuse of its water. The social worker urged NVDA officials to save the river and said that farmers are dependent on it too. NBA leader said that their fight against displacement of people, corruption in rehabilitation process, fraud, and mismanagement still continues.
Earlier, Patkar addressed a public meeting, which was attended by farmers. They complained that their land was acquired and they didn’t get right compensation. Farmers from every district along the Narmada are participating in the rally.
