Dr. Sunilam sitting on indefinite solidarity fast extended his full support to the people of narmada valley and their struggle against illegal submergence and forced eviction. He challenged the ministers of Madhya Pradesh government to go and live there for 24 hours in tin shades made by government to forcefully resettle the people of Narmada Valley.
Alok Agarwal from Aam Aadmi Party Madhya Pradesh chief and National Spokesperson exposed the claims of MP government about electricity generation from Sardar Sarovar Dam and providing water to Gujarat and said that Madhya Pradesh is already a surplus state in terms of electricity generation and around 200 people have already died from flood in Gujarat due to negligence of Gujarat state in planning and construction of decentralized water reservoirs so neither Gujarat is deficient of water nor Madhya Pradesh of electricity.
Yogendra Yadav from Swaraj India expressed his full solidarity with the iconic struggle of Narmada bachao andolan and said that this movement has challenged the discourse of so called development causing huge displacement and taking away people’s rights of life and livelihood. More than 15000 people affected from Sardar Sarovar project have been able to get the land for land due to consistent struggle led by Narmada bachao andolan. The government is insensitive and producing false affidavit in Supreme Court causing injustices. More than 40000 families in Narmada Valley are still waiting for rehabilitation not the submergence.
Sandeep Pandey sitting on fast spoke about the achievements of the movement and plight of the people. He said the development cannot be done at the cost of people and their democratic rights. The government have neither done development nor been able to protect the fundamental rights of people till now.
