The Times Of India, Nov 17 2017, Gandhinagar: Jyotiraditya Scindia, former Union minister and Congress leader, who was in Ahmedabad for canvassing countered BJP’s allegations that he is against the Narmada dam project. Scindia said his statement in Parliament were about the injustice of the Madhya Pradesh government to 80,000 displaced families.
Scindia said that neither he nor any other Congress leaders are against the project but were opposing the attitude of the MP government which was not properly rehabilitating 80,000 displaced families. “Nobody was opposing the project, which is beneficial for states like Gujarat, MP, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. But the rehabilitation of the displaced should be done properly. The MP government was not following instructions of the National Green Tribunal or the orders of the apex court and we are opposing this attitude. This is a matter limited to the state of MP and was a fight for justice to the displaced. Despite claims of completion of the project by the BJP government, farmers are yet to get water from it while industrialists were already getting it.”
The Congress leader also said that compared to Gujarat’s GSDP growth during Congress government of Madhavsinh Solanki or that of Chimanbhai Patel, the figure has come down drastically under BJP rule. He also raised the issue of the state’s debt being Rs.2.2 lakh crore now.
