The Times of India, June 8 2017, New Delhi: Social activist Medha Patkar, Prafulla Samantara, winner of the Goldman Environmental Prize 2017, environmentalist Soumya Dutta and activists Sunilam were among those arrested by Gujarat police on Wednesday afternoon at the Rendha checkpost in Chhota Udaipur district of Gujarat

The activists, accompanied by a large number of students from across the country, were present to attend a public meeting at Jeevanshala in Chimalkhedi village of Maharashtra. It was while they were crossing the Gujarat border that they were stopped and detained; they were arrested without being shown any orders from the state government. The arrests reportedly occurred to “maintain law and order”.
